Inspire and Create. The Chimney House, Sheffield

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

The Chimney House is entering into our 3rd year!! Weeeeheheeeeeee…

We’ve been totally blessed to have not only an incredible building – steeped in historical excellence – but we have a wonderful team behind us to conjurer events up for both day and night that are everything and more that our guests desire…

It is tip top high up on our priority pile that we continue to inspire and create…This entry is a pictorial catch up with how we create and innovate, find inspiration from our surrounds and travels and bring it all home to The Chimney House. We have snapped items of delight from both home and abroad as well as gorgeous sights from The CH itself!

We apply this thinking to the smallest meeting as guests use The Meeting Room, our conference room,  The Private Dining Room and everything we put in to the most beautiful of weddings…It’s all the same to us… It’s all about the detail.

Secretive Secrets…

Friday, October 5th, 2012

We’ve just had a meeting about Supper Society with Peter Moulam and his creative kitchens… OMG….We’ve been chatting about the most secretive secrets to do with sublime food and its curious presentation and our Societiers experience step by step from arrival to saying Na Night…

It’s pretty special even if we do say so… BUT the bad thing is we can’t tell you anything about the menu and NOTHING about the night full stop… Apart from the fact we have 2 more tickets left…Anything else is reserved for the knowledge of our Societiers….Who will be let in to some of our secrets from next week… They are of course sworn to absolute secrecy…

We’re bowled over by the enthusiasm and excitement from our jam packed room full of Societiers… We couldn’t have asked for anymore people (well just 2 more) or a nicer mix of guests – so THANK YOU!!! We will reward you with a Supper Society of excellence!

Supper Society

‘A mysterious society dedicated to the curious consumption of food within the walls of The Chimney House’.

Hung loosely on a  ‘Supper Club’ principle,  Supper Society is the first time individual seats can be booked to attend a dining event in The Chimney House which usually hosts private dining events in the Pop Up Dining Hall for private parties and celebrations.

Inspiration for the styling and content of Supper Society has been conjured up partly from elements from the ethereal novel ‘The Night Circus’ by Erin Morgenstern which trips between dream-like locations, Le Cirque des Rêves and glorious feasts hosted within a magical house and The Chimney House owners own curious night time adventures in Supper Clubs and dining experiences in the UK and Europe.

Supper Society is described as a ‘mysterious society dedicated to the curious consumption of food’ and entertains ‘Societiers’ for the course of an evening with 6 courses and a secret theme which changes each time. Societiers have no idea of their experience until they arrive on Kelham Island when they are passed a secret note on the approach to The Chimney House as preparation for the theme they will find themselves immersed in on arrival.

Sally Clark, Owner of The Chimney House comments ‘Supper Society takes The Chimney House to the next level of bespoke event presentation, we are avid pursuers of creative styling to enhance experiences and bolster imaginations to transport minds and souls away from the daily and mundane. To enter a Society based entirely on that ethos – just for the course of an evening is escapism worth experiencing.’

Societiers will experience an unknown menu which has been crafted to reflect the imagination and genius from guest  creative kitchen teams who place their emphasis on presentation and the ‘reveal’ of items as well as incredible ingredients combined to create inspiring tasty courses in keeping with chosen themes.

Sally Clark continues ‘we have been asked hundreds of times if guests of The Chimney House can book places for dinner with us…Dinner almost seems a little humdrum – so we’ve created a Society that is open to everyone and gives us a chance to combine creative alliances with chefs who are willing to pick up our challenge of the creation of ‘a mysterious society dedicated to the curious consumption of food…We almost can’t wait till October 25th for our Societiers to arrive’.

Etiquette

Societiers must be prepared to put themselves in our hands and be guided through an evening which is as much about experience and ambiance as it is about food and its presentation.

Societiers attending Supper Society will be not told what Society to expect until they arrive on Kelham Island. They will be handed a note on the approach to The Chimney House which will contain one word which will be the Supper Society theme.

Guests can book 1,2,3,4,5,6 seats at a time

Supper Society is not a club. You are not bound by club rules nor are under any obligation to interact with any other society guests.

Societiers will not be given entire menus before hand but will be told details of various parts of the evening. It is at this time guests will inform us of dietary requirements for which we will cater bespoke.

The Chimney House encourages the bringing of ones own wine and ales. We do not provide wines/ales/beers/liquors. We will advise on wine types which will compliment each course.

Everyone who attends Supper Society will eat the same unless they inform us of specific dietary requirements in the weeks leading up to Supper Society.

Our Supper Society Chefs

We wanted to work with chefs that challenge the usual and present dining outside the constraints of convention. We wanted to work with a team who didn’t shudder at the thought of leaving the dining plates in the cupboard and who didn’t run a mile when we revealed our first theme…We also wanted to be inspired by their thoughts and to challenge them on suggestions to deliver a sublimely exceptional menu which is based upon our locality but influenced by cool dining and supper clubs from the UK and into Europe. We wanted to work with a group of real foodies who have the expertise to deliver their promises and to be educational about the provenance of their ingredients without being a bore!

We wanted playful and simple ideas that could be worked up into and around The Chimney House to be more than a Supper Club and more than just ‘dining’ we wanted the menu to be quirky and edgy but with a luxurious and sophisticated edge…One to surprise and delight.

The team we’ve chosen for the first Supper Society, is one that has ticked all boxes and is as passionate about this event as we are, is one led by the imagination of Peter Moulam from his creative kitchens.

From The Tree Hotel, Sweden to The Chimney House, Sheffield

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Only sometimes do we get venue envy… It’s not often – but when Sara and Tom came to see us to arrange their post wedding party at The Chimney House they told us they were hot-footing it to Sweden to marry at  The Tree Hotel we went more than a little green!

We are super lucky that they have shared their fab photos with us from their beautiful day…Which was hosted amongst the true beauty of trees and swathes of romance.

We absolutely LOVE Sara in this shot…And adore her look which is as stylishly bohemian as it is understated and chic…We were also delighted when she wore her dress to The Chimney House for her post-wedding party for the new mr and mrs and 50 of their nearest and dearest.

We wanted to capture the floral and green depths of nature in our florals for the party to reflect the romance of matrimony in a tree house made for love. We used tall stems and big glossy blooms to emanate tall trees with their leaf canopy!

Beautiful florals matched with red brick hues gave the feel of the room a magical tone matched with the earthy realism of the Island location of The Chimney House with the multitude of green and vegetation surrounding the waterways.

Sara and Tom indulged their playful side with sweet treats and paper bags so guests could help themselves to old fashioned sweets after the huge wedding supper we provided…including huge joints of roast hams and plump herby potato salads, matched with cheeses and Kelham made pork pies.

They had also commissioned from the wonderful Fancie – a wedding cake of delight with mini cupcakes – perfectly mouth shaped to pop in nice and quick!

To make sure this was a proper Sheffield party Sara and Tom had personalised Hendersons Relishes for each guest to take away as wedding favours

We’ve included some shots from The Tree Hotel as well to show the absolute ethereal gorgeousness of the location.

Mirror Room…Which is our fav pic and the UFO room below…

We suggest going straight to their site for the lo-down on the hotel and why it was built high up in the trees…It’s a gorgeous story and well worth a peek!

Thanks to Sara and Tom for their gorgeous weddings pics and also for their kind words…We wish you wonderful married bliss in your new love nest…And Sara best of luck in your new job!

‘Sara and I had got married in a small ceremony in Sweden the week before, so we wanted a venue in Sheffield to celebrate with the rest of our family. The Chimney House was perfect – relaxed, romantic, and everything else we could have hoped for. Sally, Kirstin, and the rest of the staff were amazing, meeting with us beforehand to plan the menu (which was delicious), and the layout for the night. Everything went off according to plan, and our guests commented on what a fantastic night it was. We have nothing but great memories of it all. Thank you all again, you made our night…’

Wonderful Weddings at The Chimney House, Anna & Matt

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

We totally love our weddings at The Chimney House…There is HUGE anticipation of the week leading into the big day from our part…Flowers, food, styling, smells, touches and feels and tinky details…It’s a whirlwind of choosing the nicest items and cramming them into our building…

And that’s just from our part… Normally we say to our guests you sort your guest list out and what you’d like to drink and we do the rest… SO we were totally delighted when our totally gorgeous guests of honour Anna and Matt dropped off parcels and boxes the day before the wedding containing THE most delicious wedding favours to style and work into The Chimney House. All 3 of these snaps were elements of the beautifully designed treats each guest was gifted…They were of course  a name place along our big sweeping tables…AND they were specially designed to be all important cake carriers as well! TOTALLY LOVE! Delicious attention to detail…And we’re happy to say of course it looked beautiful in The Chimney House…Surely built for such niceness.

We had been totally bowled over by Anna and Matt when we first met them…And enjoyed our tete a tetes over cake and tea to hatch a wedding party plan that suited them down to the tiniest of details. They even had a pre wedding photo-shoot with India Hobson which made it into The House Blog way back in May…

On Saturday 47 guests arrived to into the The Front Room to ice cold champers infused with tasty sweet elderflower dotted around a deconstructed candelabra of old school science bottles and yummy cream drippy candles. We scattered Summer fruits around The Front Room for guests to nibble on whilst quaffing liquid sips.

Of course high excitement prevailed when said guests tipped up in a London bus…With a fabulous driver who was making us giggle with stories of the day he bought the bus…

Totally lucky with the weather…A tiny shower of rain just after a beautiful shower of confetti which swooped  to the ground after jubilant scattering and whooping and squeals of delight as Matt and Anna hopped off the bus…

Queen of pro wedding memory capture India Hobson was snapping away…So rest assured beautiful ethereal shots will appear…Our snaps are just quickly snapped by us to capture a moment for our memories…

And we managed to snap India honing in on some through the window niceness!

Upstairs in The Pop Up Dining Hall our abundance of Summer florals and stacks of candles waited flickeringly for our guests to the sound of the rather charming Colin who was on crooning duty with a slinky set of velvety guitar tunes…

Guests ooo’d and ahhhhh’d their way into The Dining Hall and fell in love with their table places…And folded divine origami hearts…

Guests settled down to a Yorkshire feast headlined by Pogg Lane chicken and followed up by luscious lemon tart and masses of cream.

And now about that cake… A dainty selection of mouthwatering scrummy creations… We loved this pom pom cake with 2 ceramic love birds perched on top…They were also little light birds – so glowed away beautifully as the dusk grew in.

There was also tantalisingly prompting ‘Eat Me’ cakes…in coffee and cherry and also…

Yessssssssssssssssss…..

The wedding party also indulged in a hefty slice of EGO box action and did a few jigs to Debbie’s cool tunes…

All in all a wonderful evening…A ravishing guest list and a radiant bride and handsome  groom…Anna and Matt we wish you a fabulous life in wedded bliss and lavish you with Chimney House luck and love X Thank you for celebrating with us X
