Beautiful Birthdays at The Chimney House Sheffield

Saturday, December 29th, 2012

We host so many birthdays at The Chimney House…They are almost our fav type of event – because they are so perfectly personal – we mostly see groups of 20ish mega close friends join the birthday girl or guy to wine and dine under our beams and inside our warming brick walls in-amongst the twinkle of candles and antiques.

We think that the best pressie of all for our guests is that moment when they enter The Chimney House and their levels of anticipation are at their highest…We put everything into making The CH even more beautiful for our guests…So when their reaction is as emotional as our lovely birthday girl – Pauline – we had to reach for the tissues!! Sob!

Pauline was celebrating her 40th Birthday…And had gathered 22 of her nearest and bestest around her for her celebrations…Slinky in a gorgeous birthday frock Pauline looked as ravishing as our the Dining Hall…Which we’d matched to her of course!!

This is her testimonial to us

‘From the first contact with Sally and Kirstin when I enquired about a venue for my 40th birthday I was caught up with their enthusiasm and their desire to make sure we had the perfect evening. It was immediately clear that this a special venue run by a fantastic team who understand their clients perfectly. And what an evening! The Chimney House is the most incredible venue and the laid-back relaxed atmosphere the team created was beyond perfect! We were all blown away by the interior and I had tears in my eyes when I saw the table set up with the candles and The Laden Table food. The food was incredible, and the whole evening was completely magical. It was the most perfect evening imaginable and I can’t wait to have a chance to return. Thank you so very very much to the fantastic Sally and Kirstin who are complete superstars. The best venue I have been to, and I am so lucky to have hosted my birthday there.’

We adore it when guests are in the mood to get down to the business of really celebrating – and these guys really did…Feasting their way through a laden table complete with local pulled pork and an amazing Winter trout salad which was as delightfully and buttery as it was glorious in colour and texture followed by autumn orchard apple tarts with toffee sauce and homemade bakewell pud and custard. Grrrrrr

We also totally love it when friends of the birthday girl cook up delicious cakes…!

Which are presented with much love and delight! A smidge fuzzy…But the expressions on faces is all you need here!!

All cakes of course get special mention and will be added into our cake tin for prosperity!

HUZZAH!!

Happiest wishes of love to Pauline in your special year of birthday happiness…XX

Fabulous 40th Birthday Parties at The Chimney House, Sheffield

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

Ahhhhhh We will have celebrated three 40th private dining birthdays at The Chimney House this week… The first was on Saturday – for Stephen – organised beautifully by wife Emma and sister Becky.

This party was super special because Becky and her husband Robin celebrated their wedding day fabulousness at The Chimney House last year…We are delighted that they hosted another landmark event in their family’s history with us!!

Guests arrived in the pouring rain and were wizzed up the stairs into The Dining Hall anticipating a hearty feast of local steak and even local-er ale from Kelham Pie…HUGE bowls of creamy mash, jugs of gravy and the delight that is braised red cabbage…Followed by ravishing balls of choux…Bulging with cream and covered in dark choc of delight!!

This party supper was so personal and so absolutely thoughtful… The bday boy – is one massive Madge fan… So tunes followed one theme and one theme only…!!

The clue of how massive a fan Stephen actually is,  is in the cake…

As you’d perhaps expect with Madonna – there was a mini scandal surrounding her outfit and body part…But hey…We’ll leave that up to your vivid imaginations… Ha Ha Opps!! BOOBIES!!!!

SUPPER SOCIETY AT THE CHIMNEY HOUSE

Monday, September 24th, 2012

Supper Society

‘A mysterious society dedicated to the curious consumption of food within the walls of The Chimney House’.

Hung loosely on a  ‘Supper Club’ principle,  Supper Society is the first time individual seats can be booked to attend a dining event in The Chimney House which usually hosts private dining events in the Pop Up Dining Hall for private parties and celebrations.

Inspiration for the styling and content of Supper Society has been conjured up partly from elements from the ethereal novel ‘The Night Circus’ by Erin Morgenstern which trips between dream-like locations, Le Cirque des Rêves and glorious feasts hosted within a magical house and The Chimney House owners own curious night time adventures in Supper Clubs and dining experiences in the UK and Europe.

Supper Society is described as a ‘mysterious society dedicated to the curious consumption of food’ and entertains ‘Societiers’ for the course of an evening with 6 courses and a secret theme which changes each time. Societiers have no idea of their experience until they arrive on Kelham Island when they are passed a secret note on the approach to The Chimney House as preparation for the theme they will find themselves immersed in on arrival.

Sally Clark, Owner of The Chimney House comments ‘Supper Society takes The Chimney House to the next level of bespoke event presentation, we are avid pursuers of creative styling to enhance experiences and bolster imaginations to transport minds and souls away from the daily and mundane. To enter a Society based entirely on that ethos – just for the course of an evening is escapism worth experiencing.’

Societiers will experience an unknown menu which has been crafted to reflect the imagination and genius from guest  creative kitchen teams who place their emphasis on presentation and the ‘reveal’ of items as well as incredible ingredients combined to create inspiring tasty courses in keeping with chosen themes.

Sally Clark continues ‘we have been asked hundreds of times if guests of The Chimney House can book places for dinner with us…Dinner almost seems a little humdrum – so we’ve created a Society that is open to everyone and gives us a chance to combine creative alliances with chefs who are willing to pick up our challenge of the creation of ‘a mysterious society dedicated to the curious consumption of food…We almost can’t wait till October 25th for our Societiers to arrive’.

Etiquette

Societiers must be prepared to put themselves in our hands and be guided through an evening which is as much about experience and ambiance as it is about food and its presentation.

Societiers attending Supper Society will be not told what Society to expect until they arrive on Kelham Island. They will be handed a note on the approach to The Chimney House which will contain one word which will be the Supper Society theme.

Guests can book 1,2,3,4,5,6 seats at a time

Supper Society is not a club. You are not bound by club rules nor are under any obligation to interact with any other society guests.

Societiers will not be given entire menus before hand but will be told details of various parts of the evening. It is at this time guests will inform us of dietary requirements for which we will cater bespoke.

The Chimney House encourages the bringing of ones own wine and ales. We do not provide wines/ales/beers/liquors. We will advise on wine types which will compliment each course.

Everyone who attends Supper Society will eat the same unless they inform us of specific dietary requirements in the weeks leading up to Supper Society.

Our Supper Society Chefs

We wanted to work with chefs that challenge the usual and present dining outside the constraints of convention. We wanted to work with a team who didn’t shudder at the thought of leaving the dining plates in the cupboard and who didn’t run a mile when we revealed our first theme…We also wanted to be inspired by their thoughts and to challenge them on suggestions to deliver a sublimely exceptional menu which is based upon our locality but influenced by cool dining and supper clubs from the UK and into Europe. We wanted to work with a group of real foodies who have the expertise to deliver their promises and to be educational about the provenance of their ingredients without being a bore!

We wanted playful and simple ideas that could be worked up into and around The Chimney House to be more than a Supper Club and more than just ‘dining’ we wanted the menu to be quirky and edgy but with a luxurious and sophisticated edge…One to surprise and delight.

The team we’ve chosen for the first Supper Society, is one that has ticked all boxes and is as passionate about this event as we are, is one led by the imagination of Peter Moulam from his creative kitchens.

The first Supper Society of the season will convene on Thursday the 25th October at The Chimney House, 4 Kelham Island at 7.30pm.

A Beautiful Ruby Wedding Anniversary at The Chimney House, Sheffield

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Gosh – how we love love! Espesh love it when the sun catches our heart shaped bell tinky hanging things and casts a shadow of love on our furniture! Nice and timely during Saturday’s set up for a really gorgeous event planned in to mark a lovely couple’s Ruby Wedding Anniversary.

We were delighted to welcome a fabulous party of 28 friends and family of the couple for one of our Yorkshire feasts around the tables. We designed by hand name places and chose beautiful scented Spring bouquets to set the scene of romance and joy.

Guests sipped champers in the last embers of a wonderful sunny day – cosy in The Front Room while catching up with family across all generations and anticipating a feasting spectacular set in the ambient vibe of The Chimney House’s private dining room.

Guests feasted royally….

….and ooohed and ahhed over stunning photography from the celebrating couple’s original wedding photos.

… as well as wonderful happy family and friends photos captured from over the years…

We were also delighted to have been able to recommend Claire Kemp Cake Studio – who rustled up a tremendous romantic cake for two – complete with antique lace and a stunning hand crafted ruby red rose to adorn the top to suitably mark the occasion.

Here’s what our couple had to say…

‘Just a brief note to thank you, Vic and the rest of your staff for a brilliant evening on Saturday. The Chimney House is a truly amazing venue and the format for the evening worked perfectly just as you said it would. It was a unique experience and Sue and me felt relaxed from the moment you showed us the room with all the trimmings. We appear to have made quite an impression with our guests judging by the numerous compliments that we received. ‘

We LOVE lunch in The Meeting Room, Sheffield

Monday, February 13th, 2012

We LOVE lunch at The Chimney House... we think about it often…When you think of lunch when you’re out of the office working on away days, training sessions, workshops, conferences, boardroom days – what do you think of?

We think of freshly made cakes… oops… start with savoury items…((!!) We think of freshly baked breads with the finest fillings of meats and Yorkshire cheeses…Paired with crispy salads and drizzled with fine olive oil…

We’re also partial to freshly made sausage rolls straight from the oven and served in succulent slices dipped in local homemade piccalilli.

We’re big champions of indulgent eating – granted – and who can ever resist our dreamy salads of best and tasty veggies….

Naturally we like to pounce straight onto dessert…But we are showing restraint and sitting all demure waiting our turn…

Who could possibly wait long for these??

Or this…

And let’s take another look at this…

So you see… WE LOVE LUNCH!!!!!

Stay tuned for our new food shots of The Pop Up Dining Hall for ultra cool private dining

The ultimate Sheffield venue (we think!!) for private dining, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and hens who want chic and gorgeous!

Kind Recommendations and the Joy of Community Spirit!

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

It never fails to amaze me how The Chimney House draws such a wide variety of people together and the means in which they find us.

We have guests traveling from all over the UK to use our Sheffield venue as well as those who travel globally for their meetings, conferences and events. As well as the people who use us a little closer to home…

Recommendations play a big part in our business – and we’re very proud of the testimonials that our guests give us. It often happens where guests who use The Meeting Room recommend their friends and family and colleagues to use our Private Dining Hall and visa versa… Sometimes guests arrive in the early morning and work in The Meeting Room and morph into The Pop Up Dining Hall for supper and carry on their business or just put their feet up and relax after a hard day’s work!

This week we’ve received many bookings which have been based around kind recommendations – so thank you to everyone who has taken the time to pass on our details to people looking for a Sheffield venue!

We’ve also been touched this week with the level of community spirit and neighbourly vibes… We’ve met quite a few of our fellow residents on Kelham Island – people booking meetings,  hen parties, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings with us all who are close by to The Chimney House – and the lovely situation where people are bumping into people they know  at The Chimney House when they are on their show-around or visit. It makes for a ‘nice warm being part of the community’ feeling!

Needless to say the tea-pot is always on the boil and we’ve really enjoyed swooping stories and planning beautiful events for some really special people this week…We’re so excited for all of your events!

As a changing morphing Sheffield venue we are always changing what we have in both The Meeting Room and in The Private Dining Room (AKA The Pop up Dining Hall) But more on that at a later date!
