‘Doctor in The House’ specialist lectures at The Chimney House, Sheffield

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Yesterday – we had a 3 events in one day back to back session in The Chimney House…Which finished with a lecture and Q&A in The Meeting Room by Dr Chris Edmundson,  the Performance Cycling Advisor to the elite and highly successful pro team Rapha Condor Sharp when they visit the Claremont hospital facility in Sheffield.

Delighted to see -  despite the pouring rain hardcore cyclists tipping up on bikes!!

Hosted by La Squadra and Nonna’s at The Chimney House we had a full house as the apocalyptic rain threw it down outside!

Dr Edmundson focused on key topics including heart rate monitors, training with power, GPS technology and cycling, over-training and  high intensity interval training.

Before getting into the second part of the lecture, the evening was punctuated with an excellent pasta supper by Nonnas and bottles of Peroni!

Supper over – Dr Chris chatted about his active researcher in high performance cycling, specifically investigating factors that relate to optimising bicycle set-up and competitive cycling performance, including ongoing research investigating blood flow haemodynamics in competitive cyclists which pulled in parallels for club riders and individuals in the listening group.

To keep up to date with events run by La Squadra keep an eye on their site and forum

La Squadra ride with Rapha, hot ts & giro viewing!

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Today at The Chimney House, we’re prepping ourselves for a fab weekend of high octane cycling adventures…! Our team La Squadra/Nonnas has teamed up with Rapha to bring you a unique weekend of cycling culture, Giro coverage and gentleman’s (and ladies of course) riding & social.

The Rapha crew are in Sheffield especially,  along with their Mobile Cycle Club, and a Rapha Condor Sharp pro team rider or two.

Also a chance to purchase a fabulously designed (by 93ft) ‘hot t’  – which is on sale at Nonnas over the weekend from £15…

Here’s the low down for the two days…

Saturday 28th May

Riders rendezvous at Nonnas, Ecclesall Road, Sheffield at 9am before heading out to the Peak District at 9:30am for a steady 50 mile there and back. At a secret mid-way location the Rapha Mobile Cycle Club will be supplying fuel in the form of coffees and cakes. The ride will continue en-mass and wend its way back to Sheffield, eventually finishing back in Nonnas, Ecclesall Road at approximately 1pm.

Here’s the ride route – http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/34662434.
The ride can also be found of Rapha’s Rendevous iPhone app

Once returned all riders will have the opportunity to watch on big screen the stage of that day’s Giro d’Italia live on Italian satellite.

Food and drinks will be available, and Nonnas will be providing free pasta to all riders. Drinks will be chargeable.

The Rapha crew will be milling around should you want a chat, and the Mobile Cycle Club will be packed with new season apparel and will be parked on-street should you want to indulge in a spot of retail therapy.

Sunday 29th May

The format of day will be similar to Saturday 29th, but the rendezvous time at Nonnas, Sheffield this time being 10am. Another 50 mile circular ride’s planned, but the route today will be different to the previous. Another mid-way stop is planned where the Rapha Mobile Cycle Club will supply the sustenance. A steady ride back to Sheffield will ensue, and the arrival point will again be Nonnas, Ecclesall Road at approximately 2pm.

Here’s the ride route – http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/34663306.
The ride can also be found of Rapha’s Rendevous iPhone app

The final stage of the Giro will be screened live in the bar area, and food & drinks will be in plentiful supply (same free pasta for riders).

Rapha’s Mobile Cycle Club will be back and ready to swap hard earned cash for some of the most stylish cycling product going.

General Info

The two weekend rides are open to La Squadra members and non-members alike. There’s no cost to ride.

Just remember if you’ve not renewed your membership you’ll miss out on a free coffee !!!

Both post-ride events are free of charge and open to everyone, so feel free to invite family & friends along to soak up the atmosphere…who knows, they might even buy you a spanking new piece of Rapha kit!

We’re super excited about this weekend, and feel privileged to be running it in conjunction with Rapha. Hope to see you on one, if not both of the days.

The Squad Gathers: La Squadra at The Chimney House

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Aim for the chimney we told our La Squadra guests…when asked how to find The Chimney House… which seemed to work really quite well until somebody pointed out when in the old industrial heartland of Kelham Island there was a couple of options on rather tall chimneys… I maintain ours is by far the largest…

Chimney size aside – and onto business.

Question. How do you welcome members of La Squadra to the inaugural meet?

Answer. Take one restored grade II listed Chimney House, fill it with amazing food from Nonnas, perfectly chilled beers (courtesy of Nonnas) put our drapers cabinet to good use and cram it with 93ft designed jerseys, show off the new Planet X Nanolight road bike and Exocet time trial bike, throw in some chilled ambiance and lots of eye candy (rare mags, maps, collectors items, posters and books) carefully selected by Marco (Gusto Cycling ) and you’ve pretty much got the basis for plenty of hearty bike chat.

The Chimney House was a hive of industry…  at one point a queue had formed going from the design office where Nick was signing new members up curving down the stairs, members trying on jerseys, The purloining of food by Mini (check the pics), training schedules being swopped and new people meeting each other, plans hatched and adventures in the making being created with chat of European trips.

Delighted you all came down – comments were really great for the evening and of course about the squad. Happy to report there was barely a skerit left and our drapers cabinet is looking particularly roomy this morning.

Members of La Squadra I salute you…
