The Chimney House is a grade II listed building. Previously used as an integral part of industrial Kelham Island it has been brought back to life from derelict and shown lashings of love and care.
The building and area are steeped in unadulterated history – to tell the tale of The Chimney House and area - Sheffield artist Tom Newell who is also a Dazed & Confused magazine regular has hot footed it back from Paris (after finishing accessorising fashion designer John Richmond’s Paris store) to paint on our Chimney.
We know that The Chimney House was actually an elephant house! Home to a elephant called Sarah. She was walked down to an area in Sheffield by her keeper for her daily work as a fork lift truck! She is shown powering a cog which in turn releases a wave of water in which 3 fish jump forth illustrating the 3 fish payment scheme. Workers of the rolling mills had permission to take 3 salmon a week to supplement their small wages to help feed their families!
